Windos 7

Postby Knight on Thursday 15th 2010f July 2010 04:57:51 AM

Anybody have a link to an article or something that will help me decide which Win7 I want? It's between:

1. Win 7 Home Premium 64.
2. Win 7 Pro 64.
3. Win 7 Ultimate 64.

MS, Anandtech, and Toms don't seem to be much help. And yes, I know Win 8 is out next year.

This is all I can find so far: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-31012_7-10 ... 55804.html

Initial thought is Win 7 Pro 64 not OEM so I can transfer to a new PC if needed.

Thanks.

Pro I'd imagine. Not too informed other than Home Premium is missing a lot of power user features.

I had a sig once, then everyone's balls sucked back into their torsos and I lost the ability to display its greatness.

For personal use you shouldn't need anything more than pro.

i concur with BMC and Scimi. however, the difference between Pro and Ultimate is like $15, so if in doubt just go with Ultimate

$15 for features you're not possibly going to use on a personal desktop. Even professional is a stretch depending on what all knights going use it for.

And what are those feats?
The 5 main things that Professional has which Home Premium doesn't:
- File Encryption (EFS)
- Domain access and Group policies
- Advanced backup (network and group policies)
- Remote desktop host
- location dependent printer selection

If you don't need any of those feats, Home Premium is perfect for you. No need to spend extra money.

I forgot... Home Premium supports max. 16GB RAM, so if you more than that, you need to go Pro :P

I use Remote Desktop a lot so Pro is what I'd go with.

Where you been old man?
